Welcome to Velindre's 160th Anniversary Patagonia Trek 2025!

We’re thrilled to have you join us for this monumental journey celebrating 160 years since Welsh pioneers set sail for Patagonia in 1865. These brave individuals established a Welsh colony where the Welsh language continues to thrive today, making this anniversary a truly special occasion.

Two Groups, One Shared Adventure

Due to overwhelming interest, we have two groups participating in this trek. Both groups will come together for a grand climb of Craig Goch, marking the anniversary of the Welsh Settlement in Patagonia in an unforgettable way.

  • Shane Williams and Sean Holley’s group: 17th November – 26th November 2025
  • Rhod Gilbert’s group: 22nd November – 1st December 2025

Make sure to download the correct itinerary below! If you’re unsure which group you’re part of, don’t hesitate to contact us at fundraising.overseas@wales.nhs.uk.

Reliving Welsh History

On 24th November 1885, Welsh settlers climbed Craig Goch and gazed upon “Cwm Hyfryd” (Beautiful Valley) for the first time. 160 years later, you’ll follow in their footsteps as part of this epic trek. Together, we’ll retrace history and celebrate the unique connection between Wales and South America.

Highlights include:

  • Trekking through the breathtaking Patagonian countryside on a stunning 5-day journey.
  • Participating in a ceremonial lowering of the Argentinian flag and raising of the Welsh flag at Craig Goch.
  • Singing both national anthems in honor of this remarkable shared heritage.
